About me

I’m Jean-Marc Lagacé, a self-taught travel photographer.

It all started with a Nikon 45mm, a few rolls of film and a trip to Paris. It felt like I had the responsibility to document our trip. To preserve it for the world to see. The result was less than impressive. Each photo needing a “you had to be there” and explanations for people to “appreciate” the memories from the trip. My own memories were much more vivid, didn’t require explanations.

The images in my mind were full of details and impressions.

I wanted the images to say all that without me being there to explain it. The years went by, through many trips, I found ways to capture those images. The general impressions of those big places and all the tiny details no one else seems to notice. And, to support the raw images, I learned how to retouch the images without needing Photoshop.

To me, the perfect image does not need to be retouched in any way.

As I became proud to share my images, share the memories, something amazing happened. Other people started telling me their stories through the images. They showed me other sides to the images.

It’s still a work in progress. I haven’t found a definite style to me. In the end, that’s what photography is for me. A moment that should be preserved.
